I finally found her ingredient list, but not the instructions/techniques. They were square, like this, about the size, of a can of spam, in fact I bet you could have used the empty can for a cookie cutter. Hard, when done, and after they had aged. And iced the same, except she put a whole hickory nut half on top, from the nuts she'd picked up at the cottage. I so miss her, my mother couldn't do a dang thing. I wasn't paying attention, when I should have been.
